Promotion Criteria For USNSCC Officers

All Officers:  

• Must be affiliated with a unit or regional staff with
  satisfactory drill attendance.
   

• Have a performance index of not less than 3.5 as computed
  on the Promotion Recommendation Form (NSCADM 017).
   

• Must successfully complete a criminal background check.
  (See Action Letter 6-00)

For Selection to INSTRUCTOR (INST)

• 21+ years old
   

• Waiver for those older than 55
   

• US citizen or waiver for non-citizens
   

• Successful completion of criminal background check
   

• Enrollment paperwork as specified in the NSCC
  Administrative Manual

For Selection to WARRANT OFFICER (WO)

• Former Armed Forces E-6 or above
   

• Received Honorable Discharge
   

• Officer/Midshipman Study Guide
   

• Copy of DD-214
   

• Over age 35

For Selection to ENSIGN (ENS)

• Complete OPD 101
   

• Officer/Midshipman Study Guide
   

• One (1) year time in grade as an INST (waived for MIDN)
   

• One (1) year time in service in the NSCC

• Complete OPD 201
   
• One (1) TWT as and INST, WO or ENS
   
• Two (2) years time in grade as an ENS (waived for INST/WO)
   
• Three (3) years time in service in the NSCC
   
• Must not place unit/staff in excess of allowance for LTJGs

For Selection to LIEUTENANT (LT)

• Complete OPD 301
   

• One (1) TWT as a LTJG or Two (2) TWTs as an INST/WO
   

• Three (3) years time in grade as a LTJG (waived for
  INST/WO)
   

• Six (6) years time in service in the NSCC
   

• Must not place unit/staff in excess of allowance for LTs

For Selection to LIEUTENANT COMMANDER (LCDR)

• Complete OPD 401 (See Notes)
   

• One (1) TWT as a LT or Three (3) TWTs as an INST/WO
   

• One (1) Career TWT must be an NSCC Recruit Training or
  Two (2) NLCC Orientations
   

• Four (4) years time in grade as a LT (waived for INST/WO)
   

• Ten (10) years time in service in the NSCC
   

• Must not place unit/staff in excess of allowance for LCDR.
